In the ancient Ottoman culture, people would go to the hamam
to escape the stressful city life and to leave one's daily
existence behind. The body would be purged of toxins,
elevating into in a state of tranquility. This was where the
sensual pleasure of bathing culminated in sweet exhaustion
and relaxation.
Qurna Natural Olive oil soaps are created to introduce this
ancient culture into your modern life style.
The hamam was a place of stillness and withdrawal, where
even a slightly energetic movement could disturb the
psycho-spiritual climate. It was a place for people of every
rank and situation to enjoy freely. The hamam was a
traditional custom throughout one's life.
The women turned the bathing ritual into an art form with
their accessories such as the "peştemal", a cotton or silk
towel wrapped around the body, as they walked toward the
marble basin known as the "kurna". They would wear various
kinds of "nalin", or wooden clogs, which kept the feet clear
of the wet floor. The nalin were often decorated with mother
of pearl or sheathed in tooled silver. The "tas", for
pouring water over the body, was often made of silver, gilt
or copper with grooved or inlaid patterns.
The hamam was a place where young girls learned the art
of beauty and could best relax and enjoy the freedom of a
day to themselves.
